Surface:Asphalt

Most Recent Winner:Sebastien Loeb (2008)

The second asphalt rally of the 2010 season, Rally Deutschland is held in Germany’s wine-producing Mosel region, near to the historic city of Trier.

This may be a pure asphalt event, but it has one of the widest variety of sealed surfaces on the calendar. As such, it's a tricky rally that demands the very best from drivers.

The stage conditions are different on each day. Friday is made up of narrow and dirty vineyard access roads that feature a mix of straights and hairpins, making handbrake turn skills essential. Saturday’s stages are held on the rough concrete roads of the Baumholder military ranges, with the ever present hazard of huge concrete blocks designed to stop tanks straying from the road.

The final day features smooth, fast bitumen-coated roads and the ‘Circus Maximus’ Superspecial that runs right through the heart of Trier’s old city. All-in-all, it’s a challenging mix.

New for 2010
A full house. Rally Deutschland is the first of two rallies this year to be eligible for all three WRC support championships: the J-WRC, P-WRC and S-WRC

I'm worried this is going to make WRC boring.

Interestingly that's what everyone, including me, thought about Schumacher and F1 when he was on the top and pretty much untouchable..but I feel now that the interest levels in F1 dropped dramatically after his exit and have failed to come back, in tune with his not so successful return.

..Sometimes the sport rides on icons like Schumi and Seb, for example I watch every WRC just to see his sheer speed and grace, and get impressed by the fact that OMG he did it again..and again..and again!! A single stage in which he doesn't have the fastest time makes the rally interesting..just to see how he'll come back..a rally lost by him makes one wonder how he's going to charge back in the next one..and so on.

So maybe his incessant wins actually keep the sport alive and interesting.. what say :?:

Id go with Toms thought process to a certain extent ..... but yeah , I always wish for Loeb to have a bad start and then see him charge through the rest of the stages !!!

Only if he convinces himself to continue! He has made a statement that he will quit rallying if he has to drive anymore underpowered cars! :)

Completely agree with you here Manoj. The way he is able to push without breaking sweat is out of this world. Seems like he does not even use all his reserves to win really and when he does, it just is a spectacle indeed. Case in point being New zealand where he was making huge time on every stage after his first day mistake and would have almost certainly taken the rally win had it not been for the spin on last day.

Its a weird thing, but when you see greats like Colin & Carlos drive, it looks like things can happen any moment and it needs superhuman skills to pilot the car around the stages. When Loeb drives, he is as straight as an arrow everywhere with no drama whatsoever. Incredible. No wonder they call him "The machine" in WRC.

Senna, Loeb and Rossi are rare gems!
