Coimbatore, 30 July 2010: The exciting bike rally got better this year with more and more riders showing keen interest in the new season and even as the City kick starts the FMSCI season’s first round, MAK is back as the sponsor for the Indian National Rally Championship for two-wheelers. The top riders in the country are all set to showcase their dashing feats on bikes as the winding terrain at Kethanur welcomes them to the first round of the MAK FMSCI Indian National Rally Championship (INRC) for two-wheelers on July 31 and August 1.

The First of the five rounds of the MAK FMSCI INRC for Motorcycles will be organized by Coimbatore Auto Sports Club (CASC) in association with Spitfire Motorsports under the aegis of The Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), the governing body for the sport in the country under the International Motorcycle Federation (FIM). The event is promoted by IMG Sports and Pro Sports Promotion (PSP) to make it more popular in all regions of the country. Bharat Petroleum, with its MAK Lubricants brand, has taken the challenge of sponsoring this series and has been instrumental in ensuring that the events ran with good support.

Riders from Team TVS Racing who have dominated the two-wheeler section for long will continue to be strong contenders. Reigning National champion Arvind KP, along with the Pramod Joshua and Nataraj, who finished second and third last year in the National championship are eager to begin their campaign while HK Pradeep also from the stables of TVS will add vigour to the battles on bikes. And many rising stars from the privateers will be keen to provide stiff competition to the only team entry. Riders from Zen Rallying, VMW racing, Speedo Racing and a good bunch from Vijayanagar in Bangalore have all entered individually and make the Garden City a vibrant cradle for bikers; not to miss the duo from Mysore, who gave a run for the top artistes last season.

The MAK Rally of Coimbatore 2010 will have two special stages. Textool Stage covering a distance of 11.7 kms and Premier Stage (14.24 kms) will be run three times each in the same direction with two service breaks in between. The total distance of special stage rallying will be 77.82 kms while the total distance of the rally, including the transport section, will be 114.87 kms. Controlled Recce, scrutiny and the briefings will be held on Saturday. All the six Special Stages will be run on Sunday. The first bike will be flagged off at Kethanur at 8 a.m. on Sunday and the Prize distribution will be at 5 p.m. at the same venue.

``The response is very strong this year and we are expecting more than 35 entries. Elaborate arrangements were made as part of the safety requirements and trained marshals and teams for spectator control will be in charge, to make this event safe and fun for everyone,’’ said Prithviraj, Clerk of the Course.
