Hello Friends,

Have been spinning by head around deciding buying Petrol vs Diesel SWIFT .. Need your help finalizing...
Whats your take ?

Haven't driven diesel vehicles really. This might be my first diesel car.
Mileage/budget really not too much of a consideration. My running is not much either..buying a diesel might increase that though :)

Had a couple of Test Drives of diesel & each was a different experience. (these drives are too small to really know the car)
Love that torque kickin..However felt that the steering feels heavier than Petrol. (IS that true ?)
I am not too much fan of speed in straight line so whether it does 140 or 160 does not really matter.

My concerns really are these:

=> Where does the diesel's performance come in as compared to Petrol ?

=> Considering Rally style driving (which means revving more) how does the diesel feel/rate considering city driving.

=> Heard Diesel feels much fun/power full in city .. Guess low end torque helps. But really is that really better than a Petrol. Will it zip faster in traffic ?

=> Is 0-60km/hr faster in a diesel (as thats the max to accelrate in traffic) ?

=> If ever the Swift gets homologated for INRC , there is a chance this one might come handy. Though i am still saving for a 1400 esteem in parallel.

=> Which events can the diesel really shine ...(Autocross? Hill climb ?)

=> Comming to MODS, i understand Diesel has less options than petrol. However all i might want is ECU mapping, alloys, Nice sounding exhuast, Good suspension.

=> Have heard the exhaust can't sound any better in a diesel. Is that true ? Remus etc. make no difference ?

Looking forward for everyones inputs..
Thanks in advance :)

with the current engines available, though the diesel is a nice engine, you cant compare the performance of that to the petrol.

diesel which comes in the swift is not to be revved hard, best performance if you keep shifting at about 3500 rpm

in traffic, when you say more fun i think it means lesser gear changes, thats it.

No, 0-60 will be better in a petrol

diesel can currently shine in any event that has a diesel only class

the muffler will be heard prvided you dont rev too hard...

For city use I'd stick to a petrol.

IMHO
my friends have both the petrol and diesel swifts, so have driven them both quite extensively .... my 2 cents

i would vote for the VDI as the petrol swift is too heavy and underpowered, 2nd gear in AC feels really sluggish while cornering or slowing down over speed breakers. 3 + 1 makes it even worse.

Kapil ....... VXI petrol will be amazing with a 1.6 ltr engine. JWRC swifts are S1600 variants

As Arjun says ...... will surely feel the turbo lag while gear shifts at higher RPM. you got to get used to the car a little.

i saw lohit urs drive the works VDI at the balehonnur autocross.... was neat

i used VDI for the nashik recce and was really impressed. Rahul's VDI on Avin's track was awesome too. The suspension and handling was lovely over those small jumps and tight corners

THANKS GUYS

-Vdi seems to be tempting for sure...
-Did like the responsive nature of the engine.
@ Lohit & Rahul -Amazing feedbacks from everyone about ur Swifts :) What are the mods list on these cars ??

-So Vishal how do u manage the turbo lag... felt it does not really respond unless u are heavy on the right foot till u hit about 2500rpm..

-Heard about Petes .. not sure it also helps reduce the turbo lag ?

-Will leave the Mods list till i book the car, hopefully in a 1/2weeks

@Tom: agree that Pertol to an extent is softer/lighter...... think will try my hands at Diesel this time as i have had my share of pertol swift back home...

=> Checking with Maruti dealers if someone can get the car delivered early ...
=> Guys any pointers ..sources for quicker delivery..It seems right now its 60days wait for any color.

=> Which dealer is better Bimal or Pratham... as in do they stick to committed dates ?
