In the present senario, there are plenty of cars that can be used for rallying..... as per the INRC engine format.....which are cheap to buy 2nd hand and use..........
For Example:
In 1600 Category.......
1. Accent Viva 1.6 or Accent Tornado 1.6
2. Fiat Palio/Petra 1.6

Can these be entered in the 1600 category of INRC after fitment of the necessary saftey gear......

Please gice your feedback as Iam having an Accent Viva 1.6, and Iam not aware if it can be used in INRC....
Whom to contact for the same confirmation and guidence.....????

please help me out here.........

Regards
John

Any car to be used in the INRC has to be homologated first ! You can write to fmsci.in for detailed information.

I dont think any of the cars mentioned in your post are homologated for rallying. So the answer is no.

What does it take to homologate a car for INRC ? Infact I have seen some cars like Honda City, Ford Fiesta and Mitsubishi Lancer GLXi being in the homologation list but not used anymore.

I guess it is the manufacturers who have to take the initiative to homologate a car. So thats what it is.

Homologation involves getting the technical specification forms filled up. A privateer can do this but without data from manufacturer it is not possible. FYI Zen homologation was done by me about 15 years back because I wanted to do INRC in it.

Secondly homologation is done only for series production cars and ceases after 3/5 years of production being stopped. In case of Esteem's also this deadline will be looming up soon.

If you want to get Accent homologated find out contact in Hyundai and also get the WRC homolgation data sheet. This way the amount of information needed to be put in will come down drastically if the basic platform for the WRC Accent was same as the Indian production. Write to FMSCI for homolgation form.

Thanks yaar.......
Since myself working in Hyundai as Area service manager..... I think..... getting the data is of no problem for me.......and will try to get it homologated........personally
Is it true that homologation ends 3 to 5yrs after manufacturing stops..... in fact...... Accent 1.6L has stopped production on 2004-05 but still accent 1.5L is going stong.........
And I intend to use accent 1.6L for INRC.......so Am I eligible for the homologation....?????

Yes....basic shell of Accent Viva launched in india is similar to the Accent WRC model in 2002......

If the car in question to be homologated has ceased production (which holds true in your case) then the homologation is just not possible.

However it can work if FMSCI gives permission which may or may not be given.

Economically instead of trying to homologate a car which has ceased production would be a waste plus the effort and expense involved would be huge. You can probably buy a rally prepared baleno and you would still be left over with funds which can help you do a couple of events!

Plus in the 1600 N the baleno would make the tornado weep... :) (not tears of ecstasy)

If I am not mistaken the FMSCI has extended the homologation of the carburetted esteem by 3 years so the RSC stays alive (aka the sport stays alive!)

That is my two bits on the matter.... you decide...

If that is the case..... we all know that Fiat Palio 1.6L.........its still in production...........

So is it possible to utilize it in 1600 category...????

.... we all know its superb to drive and a fun package for handling..........

So what is your review regarding this option then........ will it be able to come close to the balenos running in 1600 category............???????

Please Advise!!!!!

Homologating, preparing and running and running competitively are all different aspects of the sport.

The reason why the esteem is the favorite is because it is already homologated, it is cheaper to source spares and they are available of the shelf and just around the corner. If you dent the car or break the bumper or break your windsheild, rupture your fuel tank, bust your driveshafts, suspension, rims, etc etc then it is way cheaper and easier and faster to build back / repair than ANY other car.

One of the reason why the Honda City VTEC was discontinued for rally was the high cost of spares and reliability issues. The same holds true now for the Cedia BUT if you have the budget then pick your fancy of any of the autos available right now and rally.....
